3DFillies PLA Information

Our PLA Filaments print between 190°- 215° from the extruder head and should sit on a heatbed between 50°- 60° (with Kapton tape to help removal). Each Filament colour has slightly different ingredients (since each colour pigment is different) which make it important to alter print settings.

Our PLA filaments can be used for Prototyping and Production Grade Printing.

Advantages of PLA

  • Prints without a strong "plasticy" smell
  • Derived from plant products making it more "earth friendly"
  • Better resistance to warping/shrinking than ABS
  • Glossier look to surface than ABS
  • Can be printed at higher speeds than ABS with the correct cooling
  • More rigid than ABS

Disadvantages of PLA

  • Can not glue parts together using Acetone
  • Prolonged moisture can damage faster than ABS
  • Has a lower melting point than ABS so don't leave it in the car on a hot Aussie day.

Below are some PLA Printing Best Practices

PLA loves rapid cooling. Directing the fan to the extruded model is ideal for part cooling.

When printing PLA, it is always good practice to work in a well-ventilated room.

Use Kapton tape on the heatbed for better bed adhesion. A small note about using Blue Painter's tape. Try to get strips of the tape as close as possible to each other, rather than overlapping. It is better to have a small gap than overlap the tape.

Warping is not really an issue with PLA so finding the right setting is not terribly difficult.

The printer bed temperature can range between 0°- 60°.

When storing PLA it is always best to keep it away from moisture (in the air). PLA has a greater tendency to absorb moisture from the air than ABS.

Highly recommend! Review by Jay
Quality
I bought this from Perth, got withing a working week, got home and threw into my cr10 at 200C. And I love it almost as much as my printer, already looking at ordering more, this has just become my go-to filament on my Now go-to site, will be for sure testing some of their petg and Woodfill soon. Stop reading this and just buy it, I would recommend 3d fillies to possibly put up test 5m pieces for sale too. Because everyone in Australia with a printer needs this. (Posted on 22/08/2017)
10/10 Gold filament Review by Hiruna
Quality
I was really amazed by the quality of the Gold PLA. It has a sparkling sort of finish that makes all the prints look awesome! 100% recommended. I'm still yet to try the ABS filament. (Posted on 20/08/2017)
Almost perfect Review by Me217

Pretty good for the price. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the white and a little transparent. And some of the other colours seem to be a shade off what they should be. But can't complain about how it prints and at this price with free shipping. Use almost exclusively. (Posted on 20/07/2017)
Excellent Quality PLA and super fast shipping Review by Alexander
Quality
Great price, unbelievably quick shipping and a great product highly recommend
Any bad prints I had were either mine or my printers fault not the filament, cant go wrong with it printing at 205/65 on glass (Posted on 24/06/2017)
Great Product and great Customer Service Review by David
Quality
I have used the white PLA previously and found it prints WAY better than other brands I have tried. Very consistent and well behaved material which gives excellent results even on my cheap Anet printer. I am now trying the transparent yellow and it seems to be equally as good (I will put some pics on the 3DFillies FaceBook page).

PLUS, Mike's customer service is excellent. He phoned me to confirm some colour choices on my current order and shipped the rolls the same day, then emailed to follow up. His pricing is competitive and the personal service cannot be matched by a seller in China. (Posted on 23/06/2017)
